M 27 Dumbbell Nebula
M 27, also known as the Dumbbell Nebula, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula. It is the remnant of a dying star that shed its outer layers, creating a glowing cloud of ionized gas illuminated by its hot central white dwarf. With its distinctive hourglass or "dumbbell" appearance, M 27 was the first planetary nebula discovered by Charles Messier in 1764.
